Top tips to live to be 100

from: With the modern technology of today and advancements made in drugs and testing, people have a far better chance of reaching the ripe old age of 100 than they ever did. Along with the drugs and tests available to help you fight off illness and disease preventing it, is the best way to increase your chances. You can do this by looking after yourself and changing your lifestyle to rid yourself off illness, weight problems, get rid of stress and living a general overall healthier lifestyle. Here are some top tips to get you well on the road to reaching 100.

Weight lifting
Withering muscles has long been associated with getting old and at one point this was thought to be just a fact of life that nothing could be done about. However recently it was found that one form of exercise did in fact seem to help reduce the risk, weight lifting. It is thought that by lifting weights twice a week the loss of muscle and bone could be stopped and even reversed. Taking up weight lifting can help keep those muscles strong and healthy.
How young do you feel?
How young you feel goes a long way to reaching old age. A most positive and younger outlook will take you further, taking a brisk short walk for a half hour three times per week has shown to reverse a persons psychological age by as much as ten years. Not only this, but you also benefit from more flexibility and an increase in strength.
Location, location, location
If you live in an older neighborhood your chances of reaching 100 are better, well at least this is what a U.S cancer prevention specialist believes. The reason is simple, older neighborhoods tend to be a combination of shops, homes and workplaces so you walk more. Whereas newer neighborhoods are more open and widespread and people tend to take the car rather than walk and walking is the key to living healthier and longer.
Stop smoking
Smoking is bad for your health; we all know that yet millions of people continue smoking. However if you quit smoking before the age of 30 then your survival rate is boosted back to that of a non-smoker. Quit the bad habit today and start planning what you will do for your 100th birthday.
Eat a healthy diet
Those people who are health conscious and eat a nutritional diet live longer than those who pig out on pizza and junk food. Including lots of leafy green vegetables, sweet potatoes, beans, whole grains, nuts and fish can help you live longer.
De-stress
De-stressing your body and not allowing stress and anxiety to build up goes a long way to helping you reach a ripe old age. Stress is know to make you look and feel much older, so lift the burden shrug off the stress and plan on living a long care free life.
Exercise your brain
Using your brain regularly can help to ward off problems with forgetfulness and memory problems. Doing simple tasks and keeping busy rather than sitting in front of the TV nodding off works wonders for the mind. The majority of people think being healthy and fit is all about the body, but in fact the mind is just as important. Playing a crossword puzzle or Sodoku is an excellent way to keep your mind nimble and ready to grow old with you.
